Slough Science: Working with Nature & Beavers

  • Level beer 5211 Northeast 148th Avenue Portland, OR, 97230 United States (map)

Join the Columbia Slough Watershed Council and Flood Safe Columbia River to learn about how community partners are working with nature and beavers to manage flood risk along the Columbia River in a changing climate.

A system of flood-control infrastructure – hidden in plain sight – protects the Portland region from devastating floods. But the climate is changing and extreme weather threatens vulnerable communities, water quality, and the natural environment. This system is nearly 100 years old and requires urgent upgrades. Fortunately, nature-based solutions can help this system be more resilient to climate change.

Beavers are ecosystem engineers with an important job to do in the slough. One way we can work with nature is to help provide suitable Beaver habitat in the slough in a way that doesn’t cause flooding issues.

Registration is free and open to all. Please come and support our venue, Level Beer! Food is also available for purchase from food carts on site, including Grana (Neopolitan-style pizza), Flor de Guelaguetza, Pita Giovanni & Tidal Boar "Shuck Truck".
