Natural Paper Making Workshop (Part 1)

  • Whitaker Ponds Nature Park 7040 NE 47th Avenue Portland United States (map)

Join the Columbia Slough Watershed Council's Education Director, Jennifer Starkey, for an evening of working with natural materials to make paper. This two-part event will take place on Thursday, July 13, and Thursday, July 20. Participants are welcome to attend one, or both, events. This event is open to all ages, however minors must be accompanied by an adult.

What to expect: Participants who join Part 1 will have the opportunity to walk around Whitaker Ponds, gather yellow flag iris (a beautiful invasive plant that grows along the Columbia Slough), and go through the preparing process making it easier to work with at the Part 2 event. Participants who join for just Part 1, will not be actually making paper or taking home paper at the end of the event.

Getting there: This event will be taking place at Whitaker Ponds and the Columbia Slough Watershed Council office, both located at 7040 NE 47th Ave. Free parking is available at Whitaker Ponds, which is where our group will meet.

Taking public transportation? Bus #75 stops at NE 47th Ave and Columbia Blvd. Walk north on NE 47th Ave about 0.25 miles, and Whitaker Ponds Nature Park will be on your right.

What to bring: Come dressed in comfy clothes for a walk and pack along some water. We will have some light snacks and cold drinks to share.

Accessibility: A restroom will be available throughout the event. The walk around Whitaker Ponds is a ~0.25 mile walk along a mostly dirt path with some uneven areas.
