Canoe & Kayak Cleanup at St. John's Prairie

  • St. John's Prairie (Across from Chimney Park) City Dump Road Portland, OR United States (map)

Join the Columbia Slough Watershed Council for a cleanup event beginning at the St. John's Prairie boat launch! Participants can bring their own boat, or borrow a seat in one of ours. This event is best suited for those 18 and older. Minors 14 and older are permitted if accompanied by an adult.

Getting There: We will meet along City Dump Rd, located on the north side of Columbia Blvd, across from Chimney Park. Keep an eye out for the Columbia Slough Watershed Council sign! Parking is available along the shoulder of the road, again keep an eye out for the Columbia Slough Watershed Council sign at the meeting location. Taking public transportation? Bus #11 drops riders off at Columbia Blvd & City Dump Rd (also called Landfill Rd), from there, walk along City Dump Rd until you see our group. Bus #75 & #44 drop riders off at Pier Park, a 0.5 mile walk from our meeting location.

What to bring: Pack along water and come prepared for the weather - think warm layers and plan to get dirty! Rain pants and muck boots are a great idea if possible. If you are bringing your own boat, don't forget your life jacket and paddle! If you are borrowing a seat in one of our boats - register in advance, space is limited! All reservations will come with a life jacket and paddle. Columbia Slough Watershed Council will have trash bags, trash pickers and work gloves. We will have snacks to share after the event.

Accessibility: No public restroom is available. This event requires participants to nagigate uneven terrain from the parking area to the launch. This is a relatively short distance, and support will be provided by all event leaders to get everyone and their boats to the water. Participants must be comfortable staying seated throughout the event. Previous paddling experience is not required.
