Slough School at Home Update

Greetings from Slough School!

Over in the education department, we have been reflecting back on many of our wonderful programs that have happened this school year, both in the classroom and on field trips, where we learned about water quality, erosion, groundwater, and our local levee systems. This past school year, Slough School has had the opportunity to work with over 4,500 students, from kindergartens all the way through students in local community colleges sharing a variety of science and ecological knowledge. As the Council values the safety of our communities, Slough School has shifted from in-person to web-based learning. For the remainder of this school year, our educators will be making and sharing video lessons on pretty much everything Slough-related. Our first series is on the riparian zone, otherwise known as the land by the water and is now available on the Columbia Slough Watershed Council’s youtube page. Check back weekly to our website, Instagram, or Facebook accounts for new online classroom lessons, and regularly for new videos that focus on exploring the slough. We have also posted coloring pages of local flora and fauna on our website here, including beautiful illustrations by Esther Forbyn. We would love to see your coloring pages! Share them via social media using the hashtag #SloughSchoolColors and be sure to tag the Council. Also share one fun fact about the animal or plant (or fungi) you colored and we will re-post it!
