Have you ever wondered where the Slough’s turtles go in the winter? Did you know our native turtles breathe through their butts? What should you do with your pet turtle if you don’t want it anymore? Answers to these questions and more can be found out at this month’s Slough Science with Laura Guderyahn, Urban Ecologist at Portland Parks & Recreation. This free event is open to all ages, advance registration is necessary.
Getting There: We will meet at gazebo located near the parking lot at Whitaker Ponds. Free parking is available, however please carpool if possible as it is a small lot. Taking public transportation? Bus #75 drops riders off at NE 47th Ave and Columbia Blvd, a .25 mile walk from Whitaker Ponds. Bike parking is also available!
What to bring: Pack along water and come prepared for the weather (think coverage from mosquitos). We will have light snacks and drinks to share!
Accessibility: The group will be navigating a flat 0.5 mile loop dirt ADA-accessible trail. A porta potty will be available on site.
