After two summers of scaled-back events, everyone's favorite half paddle, half litter pick-up, half treasure hunt event is back! Come join the Council and your community for the 2022 Great Slough Clean-Up on July 9th from 10:00 - 1:00. Just bring your sunscreen and a smile and we'll get you geared up for a day on the water helping rid our wonderful greenspaces of trash.
This year’s watershed-wide event will take place at three locations:
NE Alderwood & NE Glassplant Rd (located here) Here we will be joined by Portland Industrialization Opportunities Center and our paddle team, while we load up in canoes and clean up this important stretch of the Middle Slough.
NE 92nd & NE Marx (located here) (on land litter pick-up) At this location we will stick to land and remove trash along the Whitaker Slough
Whitaker Ponds (located here) Please not that the location has changed to Whitaker Ponds. Here we will load up and canoes to help clean this important stretch of the Middle Slough that is host much our paddle programming.
Accessibility: There is no canoe experience required. Everyone will receive safety training from our paddle team. Life jackets and all PPE are provided by the Council. Depending on location, this event will involve bending over, walking on even surfaces, getting in and out of canoes and paddling with the support of our expertly trained paddle team, and carrying/lifting up to 20 lbs.
Masks are optional at this event, but please stay home if you are feeling sick. Thanks for helping us keep our community safe!
