Join us for morning kayaking and canoeing at Whitaker Ponds Nature Park in NE Portland. This event is exclusively for BIPOC community members.
To "beat the heat" we plan to be on the water by 10:00 am so we can enjoy as much time as possible on the water. Expect to see blue herons and other waterfowl.
All equipment, canoes, paddles, life vests (PFDS), and dry bags will be provided at no charge by CSWC. Participants will receive instructions on the use of equipment, entering and exiting the canoe, and navigating the water. This activity involves the use of a canoe bimaran which is depicted on the left in the photo. The water is not very deep and the bimarans are difficult to tip if that is a concern for you.
Children over the age of 12 are welcome, however all minors must be accompanied by an adult. If you have your own kayak, feel free to bring it! Depending on the number of people who sign up, there may be kayaks available in addition to the bimarans.
THINGS TO BRING: Water (Staying hydrated is very important), a camera, and water shoes or sandals.
OUTDOOR AFRO TRIP WAIVER: Please make sure you review a copy of the Outdoor Afro trip waiver so that we can start this activity on time ( Outdoor Afro will bring paper copies for you to sign to the event)
