Through The Trees Collective in partnership with the Columbia Slough Watershed Council Present: "Cultivating Roots: A BIPOC Tree Planting Workshop!
Join us for a day of community, conservation, and connection at the breathtaking Wilkes Creek Natural Area! This unique event offers a hands-on experience in enhancing the beauty and ecological richness of this vital space.
By participating in this workshop, you'll contribute to the diversification of the native plant community, enhancing the park for improved water quality, habitat, and overall visitor experience. Your actions will directly impact one of the watershed's most important water sources!
Event Highlights:
1) Plant Native Trees and Shrubs: Dive into the heart of conservation by actively participating in planting native trees and shrubs. Contribute to the preservation of Wilkes Creek, one of the last surface creeks flowing into the Columbia Slough.
2) Learn about Stumptown Scud: Uncover the secrets of the local ecosystem as we delve into the fascinating world of the Stumptown Scud. A knowledgeable guide will share insights into this unique organism and its role in the local ecosystem.
3) Connect with the BIPOC Individuals: Build community with like-minded individuals who share a passion for environmental stewardship. Opportunities to create relationships and network with a diverse community of participants committed to making a positive impact.

Meeting Location: Wilkes Park 3655 NE 154th Ave, Portland, OR 97230. Parking is available on the street and restrooms are available on site.
Tri-Met: Take the #21 bus line to NE 154th and Sandy. Walk ¼ mile south on NE 154th and Wilkes Park will be on your right.
This workshop is reserved specifically for BIPOC individuals, in order to provide a safe and inclusive space to explore and connect with nature.
This event is AGES 5+; minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
Some light snacks and refreshments will be provided, however, please make sure to eat something before arriving and/or bring snacks.
All tools, gloves, and training to do the tasks will be provided
This event will involve bending over and walking on uneven surfaces.
The event will occur RAIN OR SHINE - please wear closed-toed shoes and weather-appropriate clothing
