Join People of Color Outdoors and Columbia Slough Watershed Council for a BIPOC Birding Paddle at Smith & Bybee! Together we’ll explore this beautiful natural area, and learn more about the birds that call this place home. This free event is open to those who identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color of all ages. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Getting There: We will meet at the boat launch at Smith & Bybee Wetlands Natural Area, located just past the main parking lot - look out for the Columbia Slough Watershed Council sign. Parking is free, but may require a short walk from the main parking lot to the launch area. Taking public transportation? Bus #11 stops on the 5300 block of N Marine Dr, about 0.5 miles from the entrance to Smith & Bybee.
What to bring: Pack along water, binoculars if you have them, and shoes you don't mind getting a little dirty or wet - sometimes the launch in this area requires walking in shallow water. All who register will have a seat in a boat, a life jacket, and paddle. We will also have snacks and drinks to share, as well as binoculars for folks who would like to borrow some!
Accessibility: A restroom is available at the parking lot. Previous paddling experience is not required. Participants must be able to sit for 1 - 2 hours.
