This event helps to create essential salmon habitat for juvenile salmon in the Columbia basin. Juvenile salmon need coarse woody debris (your holiday tree!) for habitat as it provides shelter and food. By building the habitat, it creates an environment for smaller fish and insects. We'll help you recycle your holiday tree when you're all done with it, and put it to good use! Our expert paddle team volunteers will guide our bimarans, your family, and your tree through the Slough to where we are constructing the habitat. There, you will toss your tree into the Slough with a bit of guidance, and we'll head back to land. When you're not on water, we'll have staff members leading bird and nature walks throughout the park, and a stewardship (pulling ivy) activity, in addition to coffee, hot chocolate, and delicious donuts!
All are welcome, regardless of ability level. Dress warm, don't forget to bring your holiday tree, and we'll have warm beverages and pastries for everyone to enjoy!
Masks and social distancing will be required. If you are not feeling well, please stay home and catch us at the next event. Thank you!
