¿Qué es Explorando?
Explorando es un evento comunitario bilingüe estilo festival. El objetivo del evento es presentar a las comunidades latinas y hispanohablantes en la cuenca de Columbia Slough, organizaciones locales sin fines de lucro y otros recursos en el área. ¡Habrá todo tipo de actividades divertidas, como remar, observar aves, comida y bebida gratis, música, y más!
Llegando al Explorando
Explorando será el 20 de julio de 2024, de 1 a 4 p.m. en el Parque Natural Whitaker Ponds.
¿Como llego?
El parque natural Whitaker Ponds es ubicado en 7040 NE 47th Ave.
Estacionamiento gratis en el Centro Familiar y Juvenil Nativo Americano (NAYA), a pocos pasos de los estanques Whitaker. La entrega está disponible en Whitaker Ponds, así como en un número limitado de espacios de estacionamiento ADA.
¡Transporte público! El autobús número 75 deja a los pasajeros en NE 47th Ave y Columbia Blvd, a 0,25 millas a pie de Whitaker Ponds.
¡Andar en bicicleta a Whitaker Ponds! Habrá una actividad en bicicleta desde Hacienda hasta Whitaker Ponds y habrá mucho estacionamiento para bicicletas disponible en Whitaker Ponds.
Actividad en bici 12-2:30pm
¡Ve en bicicleta desde Hacienda a Whitaker Ponds con Andando en Bicicelta y Caminando (ABC)!
Este evento será guiado por Andando en Bicicleta y Caminando (ABC). Viajaremos desde Hacienda CDC hasta Whitaker Ponds para Explorando. La ruta es de aproximadamente 2 millas. Puedes alquilar una bicicleta y casco a ABC gratis o traer la tuya propia. Se requieren cascos. Selecciona a continuación si vas a alquilar una bicicleta o si traerás la tuya propia.
También guiaremos a las personas de regreso a Hacienda, pero esto es opcional. Recomendamos tener experiencia en bicicleta si vas a hacer el viaje de regreso.
Remo de canoa 1:30-3:30pm
¡Todos son bienvenidos a unirse a nosotros en el agua para explorar Slough en canoa! Este año tendremos opciones por orden de llegada para que la comunidad se una a nosotros en bimaranes (dos canoas atadas juntas). ¡Nuestros líderes del equipo de remo te guiarán en un viaje por el agua!
Todos los remeros tendrán acceso a chalecos salvavidas de todos los tamaños, remos e instrucciones de seguridad. Los bimaranes saldrán del muelle cada 30 minutos a partir de las 1:30 p.m.
Accesibilidad: para llegar al muelle donde se botan los botes, los remeros deben bajar 4 escalones y una rampa corta. Es necesario agacharse un poco para subir a los botes, y luego los remeros deben sentirse cómodos para permanecer sentados durante aproximadamente 30 minutos.
Observacion de aves 1-4pm
Únase a el líder de caminatas de aves del Watershed Council, Ryan Gilpin, para identificar patos, garzas, pájaros cantores migratorios y más en una estación de observación de aves en Whitaker Ponds. ¡Traiga sus propios binoculares o pida prestados algunos de los nuestros!
Esta actividad es genial para todas las edades. Los participantes pueden entrar y salir durante este período de tiempo.
Bailoterapia 3pm
En esta sesión de baile de media hora tendrás la oportunidad de divertirte y ejercitarte al ritmo de música latina como merengue, salsa, bachata y reggaetón. Únase a nosotros en esta media hora de diversión con nuestra instructora, María Teresa.
Rifa 1-4pm
¡Participe para ganar un kayak, tarjetas de regalo, plantas, juguetes para perros, herramientas para bicicletas y más!
Todos recibirán 1 boleto para la rifa al ingresar. Se pueden comprar boletos de rifa adicionales durante todo el evento; se aceptan efectivo, tarjeta y Venmo. Los ganadores se sortearán alrededor de las 15:30 horas. Debe estar presente para ganar.

Comida y bebida gratis 1-4pm
La comida se proporcionará de 1 a 4 p.m. o hasta que se agote el suministro. El Salto estará en el evento con comida vegana venezolana.
Las bebidas estarán disponibles de 1 a 4 p.m. Disfrute de bebidas de Oakshire y Level Beer. Las opciones sin alcohol estarán disponibles en Guayaki Yerba Mate, Happy Mountain Kombucha, Swire Coca-Cola y Wyld CBD.

Estamos emocionados de tener a DJ Hensy tocando música latina en Explorando!

Mesa de arte - Tendremos una mesa con papel, crayones y materiales de arte para que dibujes plantas y animales del cienega.
Las organizaciones asociadas tendrán mesas preparadas para compartir información con la comunidad sobre sus recursos. Incluyen: Loco por la Aventura, Verde, Hacienda CDC, Guerreras Latinas, y mas!

What is Explorando?
Explorando is a festival-style, bilingual community event. The goal of the event is to introduce Spanish-speaking and Latino communities in North Portland to the Columbia Slough Watershed, local nonprofit organizations, and other resources in the area. There will be all sorts of fun activities, such as paddling, bird watching, free food & drinks, music, and more!
Getting there
Explorando will be on July 20, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Whitaker Ponds Nature Park.
How do I get there?
Whitaker Ponds Nature Park is located at 7040 NE 47th Ave.
Free parking will be available at the Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA), a short walk from Whitaker Ponds. Drop off is available at Whitaker Ponds, as well as a limited number of ADA parking spaces.
Public transportation! Bus #75 drops riders off at NE 47th Ave and Columbia Blvd, a 0.25 mile walk from Whitaker Ponds.
Bike in! There will be a bike activity led from Hacienda to Whitaker Ponds and we will have plenty of bike parking available at Whitaker Ponds.
Bike Activity 12-2:30pm
Ride your bike from Hacienda to Whitaker Ponds with Andando en Bicicleta y Caminando (ABC)!
This event will be guided by Andando en Bicicleta y Caminando (ABC). We will travel from Hacienda CDC to Whitaker Ponds for Explorando. The route is approximately 2 miles. You can rent a bike and helmet from ABC for free or bring your own. Helmets are required. Select below if you are renting a bike or bringing your own. We will also guide people back to the Hacienda, but this is optional. We recommend having cycling experience if you are making the return trip.
Canoe Paddles 1:30-3:30pm
Everyone is welcome to join us on the water to explore the Slough by boat! This year we will have first-come, first-served options for the community to join us in bimarans (two canoes tied together). Our Paddle Team Leaders will guide you on a journey across the water!
All paddlers will have access to life jackets of all sizes, paddles and safety instructions. The bimarans will leave the dock every 30 minutes starting at 1:30 p.m.
Accessibility: To reach the dock where the boats are launched, paddlers must descend 4 steps and a short ramp. Some crouching is required to get into the boats, and then rowers should be comfortable sitting for about 30 minutes.
Bird Watching 1-4pm
Join Watershed Council bird walk leader Ryan Gilpin in identifying ducks, herons, migrating songbirds, and more at a birding station between the East and West pond. Bring your own binoculars, or borrow some of ours!
This activity is great for all ages. Participants are welcome to come and go throughout this time frame.
Dance Activity 3pm
In this half-hour dance session, you'll have the opportunity to have fun and exercise to the rhythm of Latin music like merengue, salsa, bachata, and reggaeton. Join us for this half-hour of fun with our instructor, Maria Teresa.
Raffle 1-4pm
Enter to win a kayak, gift cards, plants, dog toys, bike tools, and more!
Everyone will receive 1 raffle ticket upon entry. Additional raffle tickets are available for purchase throughout the event - cash, card and Venmo accepted. Winners will be drawn around 3:30pm. Must be present to win.

Free Food and Drink 1-4pm
Food will be provided from 2 - 5 PM or until supply runs out. El Salto will be at the event with vegan Venezuelan food.
Drinks will be available from 1 - 4 PM. Sip on ice cold drinks from Oakshire and Level Beer. Nonalcoholic options will be available from Guayaki Yerba Mate, Happy Mountain Kombucha, Swire Coca-Cola, and Wyld CBD.

Art table - We will have a table with paper, crayons and art materials to draw plants and animals of the Slough.
